The Stack

Cryptalk is a pure client-side application using WebRTC for direct peer-to-peer data channels. There is no middleman server storing your chats. The signaling for the handshake is done via a broker, but the data flows directly between users.

Encryption

We use the Web Crypto API to generate AES-GCM 256-bit keys on the fly. These keys are exchanged securely using ECDH (Elliptic Curve Diffie-Hellman), ensuring that even if the signaling traffic is intercepted, your messages remain readable only to participants.

Data Minimization

Cryptalk does not collect personal data. No accounts, no emails, no phone numbers. Your "identity" is a randomly generated UUID stored in your browser's local storage.

Ephemeral Nature

When you close the tab or destroy the room, the encryption keys are wiped from memory. Nothing is persisted on any server.

What happens if the host leaves?

Since the host acts as the room hub, the room is destroyed. All participants are disconnected for security.

Commands?

Type /help in chat to see available commands like /roll, /copy, and /info.

CONNECTION DROP BUG?

                        Phones kill background lobbies to save battery. To stop crashing on mobile, go to Settings > Apps > Browser > Battery and set it to UNRESTRICTED.
                    

NODE DEPLOYMENT ADVISORY

If the default gateway drops, activate the Custom Node switch. To ensure a seamless P2P mesh connection, every peer in your lobby must use this exact same server address.
